Trash Collection Program (curbside)
Trash Container

Pay as You Throw
Pay as you throw programs bring equity into the solid waste cost of disposal. A resultant benefit of this program will be more recycling. All residential trash will be required to be in a town-approved bag and in the Town-issued trash container. Bags can be purchased at many local retailers.

Prices
All bags come in packages of 5. Trash that is not in an approved bag will not be picked up. People who dispose of trash illegally will be prosecuted.
  • Small Blue Bag - $7.25
  • Large PurpleBag - $15.00

Purchasing Locations
Bags may be purchased at the following locations:
  • HB Provisions
  • Port Hardware
  • Kennebunk XTRA Mart
  • Cummings Market
  • Kennebunk Ace Hardware
  • Kennebunk Hannaford
  • Kennebunk Town Hall
Pick-up Times
Please have all trash and recycling out at the curb by 6:00 am. By not having it out at the start of the day you risk not being collected as the drivers can start their route at any location during that day. Trucks will not make a return trip to pick up trash / recycling placed out after they have gone through. Trash / recycling not collected must be brought back in for collection the following week.

Limitations
Please remember that Kennebunk has a 65 lb. weight limit for containers. Please do not overfill your container with heavy material such as kitty litter (most common issue).

Exceptions
For those who may occasionally have more trash than will fit in your curbside collection trash container, may be away during the scheduled collection, or live on a lengthy private road and find the curbside collection program challenging, the transfer station will accept household trash provided it is in the Town's PAYT trash bags.

Commercial Solid Waste

All commercial businesses with dumpsters will be charged by their respective hauler for the cost of their trash disposal. Non-profit organizations will also have to pay for their trash disposal under this program.

Businesses and non-profit organizations that generate a small amount of trash on a weekly basis and wish to participate in the residential curbside collection program, may do so. You will be issued one 64-gallon container at no charge (the same container issued to residents). Your collection will be weekly based on the regular collection schedule for your respective area (Monday-Thursday). You will need to comply with all residential PAYT rules. If interested, please contact the Town at 985-4811 to sign up for this service.

Please note: If you generate more trash than will fit in a 64-gallon container, you must make arrangements for private trash hauling services.
