Registrations
New Registrations
You will need to bring in a detailed bill of sale from a dealership or from a private seller. Please visit Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Maine Department of Inland Fisheries for more specific information. This includes registrations for:

  • ATVs
  • Boats
  • Cars
  • Motorcycles
  • RVs
  • Snowmobiles
  • Trailers
  • Trucks

If you have purchased a new or used vehicle from a Maine licensed dealer, you may pay excise tax and complete the registration process in this office if you already have license plates. If you need new plates, you will need to pay the excise tax here first and then proceed to the Kennebunk branch of the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles to get license plates and finish the transaction.

Re-registrations (Renewals)
Renewals can be done (1) in the Finance Office or (2) online.

(1) In Office Renewal:
The Finance Office serves as a State of Maine renewal agent for registration of the following vehicles:

  • ATVs
  • Boats
  • Cars
  • Motorcycles
  • RVs
  • Snowmobiles
  • Trailers
  • Trucks

(2) Online Renewal

Rapid Renewal
If you are simply renewing you present motor vehicle registration, you may do it online using the State of Maine's Rapid Renewal process. This online service makes it possible for you to renew your motor vehicle registration and to pay your local excise tax in one simple transaction.

You may re-register your boat, ATV, or snowmobile online through the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Expedite the Registration Process
Here you will find a list of items to bring for new, re-registering, or transferring registrations.

Additional Information

Although it is not required for registration purposes, please be aware that Maine has a Motor Vehicle Inspection Law for all motor vehicles and a requirement that you obtain a Maine Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Maine resident. For more details and information about these and other laws, please see the State of Maine motor vehicle laws online.
