Curbside Trash & Recycling Collection
In June of 2015, the Town began a new automated trash and zero-sort (also known as single-sort) recycling collection program. Pine Tree Waste Services (a Casella company) has been contracted to provide this new automated residential service. Each residence is issued two 64-gallon wheeled containers. One container will be identified for trash and the other for recycling.
Do we need special bags for household trash?
Yes. Household trash (what should be thrown in the trash (PDF)) must be placed in Town Pay-As-You-Throw trash bags. If you bag your trash in regular household trash bags (white/black, etc.) you must then place that bag inside a Town PAYT bag and cinch and tie it closed. Town PAYT bags should not be used as trash container liners, as bags must adhere to size and weight limits.
The Town offers three sizes of bags: large (33 gallon bags), medium (18 gallon bags) and small (8 gallon bags). Bags are sold at Town Hall as well as at Cummings Market (3 Alfred Road), Hannaford Supermarket (65 Portland Road), HB Provisions (15 Western Avenue), Kennebunk Ace Hardware (45 Portland Road), Kennebunk Xtra Mart (88 Main Street), and Port Hardware (153 Port Road).
New app to help keep you up to date on your trash and recycling collection!
The Town of Kennebunk is pleased to announce a new App for engaging with our curbside trash and recycling provider, Casella. This App allows residents to see their trash and recycling collection day, receive notifications about delays or rescheduling, search for items that are recyclable, and more!
Download the Recycle Better with Casella app on the App Store or Google Play Store or scan the QR codes below. To use it on our website simply type in your address below to learn more about trash and recycling pickup at your home address.
When is my collection day?
Collection is weekly, with pickup occurring Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Use our app to see when your collection day is. Just type in your address and sign up for notifications and reminders.
Recycling Information
Recycling is zero-sort, which means you may combine all of clean paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, metal, tin and aluminum and place those items in the container designated for recycling see list of items you can and cannot recycle (PDF). Use the Wizard in the Casella Curbside Trash & Recycling App to learn more by typing in the name of the item you would like to recycle.
Transfer Station
Items that cannot be left curbside for collection can be brought to the transfer station located at the Public Services Facility on Sea Road. This facility is currently contracted to a local company (CPRC) and this company sets the rules and fees for acceptable items according to current laws and regulations.
If you have more trash than will fit in your curbside collection trash container, will be away during the scheduled collection, or live on a private road and find the curbside collection program challenging, the transfer station will accept household trash provided it is in the Town's PAYT trash bags.
Also located at the transfer station is a drop off area where residents can bring their recycling items, for a fee, if they do not wish to leave them out for curbside collection. View fee schedule for items brought to the Transfer Station.
