History
During the summer of 2015, something magical happened. The residents of Kennebunk were able to enjoy a free concert held at the Waterhouse Center on Main Street. The Portland Symphony Orchestra pulled out all the stops and delighted an audience of over 1,200 people who gathered to hear them perform. People of all ages gathered and spilled out into Main Street after all the seating in the Waterhouse Center had been taken. A strong thunderstorm blew through as Vivaldi’s Concerto No. 2 (Summer) was being played and the crowds stayed on. They gathered under umbrellas and found what shelter they could, seemingly oblivious to the wind and rain.
The music captivated our whole community, and brought Kennebunk together on that electric evening in July.
After being so inspired by the concert and the response, Music on Main, a committee of community members dedicated to making this an annual event was formed.
Support Music on Main
Music on Main would not be possible without your support. The reality is that is costs close to $40,000 to pay the musicians, rent the stage and chairs, provide a meal for the entire orchestra, printing costs for the programs and posters and the expense of town staff who work diligently behind the scenes to make sure everything operates smoothly. We rely entirely on the generosity of our community to make this all happen. Private support of the arts is more important today than ever before.
Each year we depend on the generous support of corporate sponsors, both large and small, and individual donations. While we are exploring grant money, that process is lengthy. If you feel drawn to support this endeavor, we invite you to explore sponsorship opportunities, which are available for both businesses and individuals.
