At their meeting on September 25th, the Board of Selectmen approved a request by the United Ostomy Associations of America (headquartered in Kennebunk) to proclaim October 6, 2018 as "World Ostomy Day - Speaking Out Changes Lives" in Kennebunk.
Ostomy is a surgical procedure that aids a person that has lost normal function of digestive or urinary systems due to birth defects, colorectal cancer, bladder cancer, Chron’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and other medical conditions. Both Ms. Ryan and the Board of Selectmen hopes that area communities will join together to work to erase the myths, stigma and embarrassment that are sometimes associated with having an ostomy.
