Police departments around the state and the nation are embedding Behavioral Health Liaisons into their departments.
The
Kennebunk Police Department is fortunate to have a Behavioral Health Unit with two Behavioral Health Liaison positions. This role supports law enforcement’s response to those with behavioral health and resource needs in our community. They also assist the town’s residents with matters including mental health and substance use disorder
. As co-responders, the liaisons can assist officers with de-escalation during a call, providing support to those in crisis, and following up with citizens to make sure they have the connections and resources they need moving forward.
