In an ongoing partnership with the University of New England, Kennebunk Parks and Recreation welcomes two student interns to the team this fall. Over the last five years, Kennebunk Parks & Recreation has mentored over 35 students from UNE. This semester, two students will participate in a 125-hour internship, and the department expects to collaborate with four Health, Wellness and Occupational Studies students on a class project.
Harry Wales, a senior majoring in environmental science, will be offering adult and student classes in ornithology. The program called Bird Walks will explore the surrounding areas of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Biddeford. Participants can experience the best of morning and afternoon bird activity with Harry.
York County is home to a variety of bird-rich habitats such as estuaries, freshwater ponds, salt marshes, pine woodlands, and beaches. The walk is a great introduction to the birds of Maine and appropriate for birders of all levels. Participants in the program will learn about migratory songbirds, hawks, ducks, waterfowl, songbirds, shorebirds, and raptors. Multiple dates and locations are available. Sign up for Bird Walks here.
Joe Kucky, a senior majoring in sports management and a UNE football player, will be offering youth sports programs for pre-k kids and students. You can sign up for the Homeschool Gym Class and Recess program here. This program will take place at Parsons Field and will offer a variety of activities and games like frisbee golf, kickball, and other traditional backyard games.
