An Update Regarding Kennebunk Recreation Summer Camps

Recognizing that nothing is more important than the health and safety of our children, members of the Town of Kennebunk leadership team reviewed the feasibility of hosting summer camp this year.

During that analysis, consideration was given to Maine CDC guidelines related to the reopening of summer camps. In addition, leadership also reviewed the summer camp procedures most recently issued by the Office of the Governor, which serve to address the operation of summer camps under the veil of COVID-19.

Based upon the recommendations and direction provided in the referenced materials, and after much thoughtful deliberation, the Town of Kennebunk has decided not to offer any summer day or explorer camps in 2020.  We recognize that this decision creates a difficult situation for families that rely on summer camp each year. However, given the potential health implications presented by COVID-19, we feel it is in the best interest of everyone to not open summer camp in Kennebunk this year.

Over the next few weeks, the leadership team will evaluate the viability of other camps such as tennis, soccer, softball, pickleball, etc. Each of these programs will be evaluated on a case by case basis, keeping in mind the requirement to adhere to health and safety guidelines during this time of COVID-19.

We will provide further communication in the near future on these efforts. Lastly, those that have provided early deposits toward the Explorer Camp program will soon be contacted by Kennebunk Parks & Recreation Department staff regarding refunds/account credits.

We wish you all safe and healthy summer and look forward to coming together again soon.
