Vehicle and Trailer Registrations

COVID-19 Response for Registrations Our office is open to the public Monday - Friday 8AM - noon and 1PM - 4:30PM. A triage system is in place to minimize the number of residents in the lobby at the same time. We appreciate your patience in advance as we navigate through processing vehicle registrations and tax payments.

Our office does not issue license plates of any kind so if your transaction requires a license plate, you will have to start your registration here and finish it at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV).

The local Kennebunk BMV Branch has reopened June 1, 2020 by appointment only. Their direct telephone number is 207-985-4890 to schedule your appointment.

On May 12, 2020 Governor Mills issued an Executive Order Addressing Certain Municipal and Taxation Matters (PDF).  This order includes the following item, "Reinstating Vehicle Registration Requirements (PDF)."

Within 30 days of the effective date of the Order, vehicles required to be registered in Maine
with an expiring or expired registration must be registered, but only if the vehicle owner is a
resident of a municipality that participates in the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicle Rapid
Renewal Program, or is accepting online or in-person excise tax payments through their
municipal offices. Previous actions by the Governor suspending vehicle registration
requirements during the state of emergency have been rescinded in part by this Order.
This means that municipalities may see increased excise tax collections, and may open
municipal offices if necessary for excise tax collections, provided social distancing and sanitary
requirements are followed.
