In August of 2022, the Town created a Climate Action Plan Task Force as part of a four-community cohort (Biddeford, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport & Kittery) to work with Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission on the creation of a Climate Action Plan (CAP). The Task Force met bimonthly since August of 2022, and as part of the development of the Climate Action Plan, conducted extensive community outreach through Climate Action Survey (PDF), commissioned a Vulnerability Assessment (PDF) and utilized a Baseline Greenhouse Gas Inventory (PDF) as tools in the development of the Climate Action Plan.
Climate Action Plan - approved by Select Board on 5/14/24
The Climate Action Plan was presented to the Select Board for adoption on May 14, 2024. The Plan contains 22 strategies that assist the Town in guiding future policy development to reduce the vulnerability to impacts of climate change, enhance the resiliency of the community and reduce the community contribution to Greenhouse Gas Emissions. It is the intent that by pursuing the implementation of the strategies in the CAP that the public will be more engaged about efforts to address climate change, the Town will be more informed as it develops budgets and pursue grant opportunities in support of climate goals while building a sustainable local economy that improves community health and livability.
The Climate Action Plan is a dynamic document and may require ongoing revisions or updates to align with changes as the plan progresses towards implementation.
