[ARCHIVED] Interested in joining a Town Committee? DRAFT FOR NEW COMM. AND OTHERS

Planning Board meeting 2022

Kennebunk is currently seeking members for the Climate Action Plan Task Force and the Historic Preservation Commission (applications due 8/10/22). We also have openings on many other Town committees.

The Town of Kennebunk is fortunate to have a committed group of volunteers who generously give their time and talents to a variety of committees (boards, committees and commissions). We are seeking volunteers to serve on a number of committees.

New Climate Action Plan Task Force:  Kennebunk has joined with three other local communities: Town of Kennebunkport, City Government Biddeford Maine and Town of Kittery, and through a partnership with Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission, will work together and share resources as we each create a local Climate Action Plan for our respective community.

The Town of Kennebunk has formed a Climate Action Plan Task Force and is looking for two members of the public to join and help with this initiative. Task Force members will serve as the community lead for the planning process and plan development. Task Force members will work to gain community support for the CAP process and for the final plan, help develop goals for each sector of the plan and provide guidance to the engagement consultant working with the four towns on a community engagement plan.

From now until approximately September 2023 Task Force members will attend 1-2 meetings/month, including:

• 4 trainings
• 6 community Task Force meetings
• 4 cohort wide meetings
• 1 Regional public workshop and
• 4 local public workshops

In addition, there will be materials to review prior to meetings, feedback given at meetings and support for public engagement activities.

Historic Preservation Commission:  Are you interested in history? Architecture? Archaeology? Do you have a background in one of the above fields, or an interest or knowledge of historic preservation? The Town of Kennebunk seeks a qualified volunteer to serve on its Historic Preservation Commission. The Kennebunk Historic District was created in 1963 by the Town of Kennebunk and is the oldest historic district in the state. The Historic Preservation Commission operates according to Article 12 of the Kennebunk Zoning Ordinance (PDF)  and primarily reviews applications for Certificates of Appropriateness for work proposed to alter the exterior of structures and property located within the Historic Preservation Overlay District.

The Commission meets twice per month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., as needed, on the 3rd floor of Town Hall.

Individuals with a demonstrated interest, competence, or knowledge in historic preservation, and those that may represent the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualifications Standards in the areas of History, Archaeology, Architectural History, Architecture or Historic Architecture, are encouraged to submit a letter of interest as well as a resume to the Town Manager’s office via email or mail at: 1 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME 04043.
